It has been 3 months since I used my camera. It’s the same every year. Too many gloomy days with little light. Only when the New Year has passed and signs of spring start to appear do I venture out. This morning was wonderful. The frost had coated the hedges and fields with a layer of frost. The riverbank is covered in dead vegetation but underneath green shoots are beginning to fight their way through.

I drive passed this building frequently and each time it makes me smile. I love the fact that someone chose to paint the corrugated sheets with trees. The paint is now crumbling and I fear it is only a matter of time before it is painted battleship grey.

I have been wanting to photograph people at a race meeting for some time and saturday afternoon was the final 2011 meeting at Ripon Racecourse.

I only went out for some envelopes but luckily I took my camera. The Otley Folk Festival was in full swing and morris dancers from around the UK performed under the May pole.

I have never understood why people put plastic gnomes in their gardens. But when I saw these meercats in the gardens at the retirement homes where my Mum lives, I could not fail to see the humour.

One of the places I like to escape to in the evenings is Almscliffe Crag.

My job as a designer frequently involves creating images for websites and print. Last saturday I made a 440 mile, same day return trip to Bristol to photograph GB Theatre Company’s production of Romeo & Juliet. The shots were taken from 25-30 feet away during a live performance, handheld and without the use of flashlight (it would distract the actors and the audience). The cast are hugely talented and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity of photographing them.

The cliffs at Cayton Bay are slowly eroding into the sea and several homes have already been dismantled. A few small fishing boats wait on the concrete jetty and the sound of gulls and breaking waves fill the salty air.
